Four Tips To Help Prevent Your Email Account From Getting Hacked

Hackers can hack into anything if they have enough information to go on, and your email account is no different. Email hacking is on the rise due to scams like the Netflix scam. You need to stay on top of things and protect yourself. We have 3 great tips to help prevent these attacks from happening to you.

Configurations

Whenever it is possible, you should get your computer to use HTTPS. The HTTPS configuration has a padlock icon inside of it. It will protect your computer from hackers or any other cyber threat.

Unfamiliar Emails

You would think this would be a no-brainer, but you might be surprised how many do this. Do not open emails from an unfamiliar source. Delete emails in your spam mail. Some of them come with a flagged message anyway. Once you open one up you will become a target. Any email that asks for your account information should not be trusted. They are phishing scams and they will infect your computer once they are opened.

Untrusted Accounts

Do not open up your computer and give out information on an untrusted source. Library computers may look safe, but many of them are not. Some people come to the library looking to get other people's information. I have seen them do it. They will hide away and watch you. You should only do the bare minimum on a library computer or a cafe computer. Save your banking for when you are home.

Spyware

You need spyware and anti-virus protection on your computer, home or otherwise. Keep them updated. They will notify you when something is wrong and work to correct it.
